‘Special Friends’ is where we share and follow the stories of some very special animals in Cyprus.
It looks like the callous hunters of Cyprus have struck again (either that or some unmentionable citizen)! This time their target was a beautiful 1 year old hunting pup now called Leia. She was found on January 7th wandering the streets of Apsiou at midnight, starving, terrified and confused by a lovely lady who took pity on her and bundled her into the car to safety.
It was not until she got her home that she realised that she is also blind. A trip to the vet the following day showed that she is elrichia and leishmania free but an x-ray shows the horrors of what she has suffered. Countless gun pellets in her skull and neck, mainly shot through the eyes causing her blindness; the same trauma my Miles suffered.
Despite her unfathomable pain and fear, Leia still wags her tail when cuddled and yesterday managed to climb stairs for the very first time (see video). She will be staying with her saviour to gain confidence and put on some much needed weight until a loving forever home is found (application and home-check will of course apply).
Foster mum, Ifigenia, will be sharing her progress with us and we will post updates as they come in. A brave little girl who deserves a wonderful new life.
If you are interested in offering Leia a loving home, please contact us at [email protected]
NOTE: I am not a vet so any changes in diet, concerns or problems should be discussed with one. I am not responsible for any problems arising from my suggestions or opinions in this section.
