Larnaca Teenager Dies in Motorcycle Accident
Larnaca resident Andreas Pavlou, 18, was killed in a motorcycle accident at 8:15 on February 14th, making it the third road fatality in 48 hours and the fourth within a week.
The unlucky teenager was driving a powerful motorcycle on Spyros Kyprianou Avenue towards the Nea Salamina roundabout in Larnaca when he was hit by a vehicle driven by a 54-year-old man who turned right at the Machairioti street traffic lights. Mr. Pavlou was killed instantly in the impact, with the driver and his 50-year-old wife slightly injured. The 54-year-old tested negative for alcohol and was detained for questioning.
Police have not confirmed the cause of the accident, and are investigating the latest fatality.
Most accidents here are caused by risky behaviour such as speeding or sloppy driving habits like not indicating or playing chicken with oncoming vehicles, resulting in a high death toll relative to our population. Motorcyclists have the highest risks - and the highest death toll.
