Suspected Ayia Napa Multiple Murderer Manhunt
Authorities are still searching for Albanian multiple murder suspect Aleks Burrell in Ayia Napa. He is wanted in connection with the four deaths by mafia-style execution in the holiday resort on June 24th.
Earlier this week, police gathered in large numbers in the Aglandjia area in Nicosia after a sighting of the dangerous suspect. Aglandjia is near the UN buffer zone, and it is thought the suspect was trying to run to the Turkish-held north of the island, from where he could escape to Turkey.
Brutal murders
Two members of the police and two men linked with Ayia Napa mafia circles died in the shootout in a nightspot on Katalimaton street at 10:30pm on June 23rd.
Notorious ‘businessman’ Phanos Kalopsidiotis was shot dead in Cicero restaurant by an Albanian hired killer, and a husband-and-wife police couple died in the crossfire. Horrifically, officers Elias Hadjiethimiou and his wife Skevi were shot to death in front of their children, who managed to escape the hail of bullets from a Kalashnikov by diving under the table.
In related developments, four more suspects were arrested in connection with the brutal murders; 39-year-old Marios Christodoulou; 38-year-old Panagiotis Pentakafkas; 28-year-old Sophia Gregoriou; and a Serbian man - the victim’s bodyguard. The suspects are thought to have planned the murders.
Another member of the police is in critical condition in Famagusta Hospital, along with several other people suspected to be part of the Albanian’s murder plot.
Kalopsidiotis has been targeted in the past, resulting in the murder of five of his bodyguards on the same date in 2012. His father died in the same way, shot dead in a hail of bullets during an ambush outside his home.
