Andreas Ephraim, 33, died in a motorcycle accident on Eleftherias Street in Limassol at 05:40 on November 20th, dying on impact with the road after he was thrown from his vehicle, said police.

It appears that the driver lost control of his bike and hit the posts on the side of the road, said police. He was wearing a helmet, and the results of a toxicology test are expected to show whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

The 31-year-old passenger with whom he was travelling was slightly injured. The accident happened just after they left a nightclub.

Meanwhile, new statistics show that road fatalities rose across the EU during 2015, topped by Cyprus. At 57 deaths, road mortalities in Cyprus were 26% higher in 2015 than they were in 2014, according to EU data. The next-highest fatality rate was in Finland, which saw a rise of 16 percent in 2015.

Compared to the year 1995, road accidents fell by 59 percent in the rest of the EU, versus 51 percent in Cyprus.
