Cypriot Baritone Markos Kleovoulou Recital

Markos Kleovoulou
A wonderful event takes place at The Shoe Factory, on 31 October as part of the Cyprus Artists Series of the Pharos Arts Foundation, presenting the exceptionally talented, young Cypriot baritone Markos Kleovoulou for his first Lieder Recital in Cyprus.
A graduate of the Milan Conservatory, Markos has already tackled operatic roles such as Dandini in Rossini’s La Cenerentola and Dr. Malatesta in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, he appeared in the 2014 Venice Biennale singing the leading baritone roles in two contemporary operas, and more recently, in Milan’s Auditorium singing the role of Duke Bluebeard in Bartok’s The Duke’s Bluebeard Castle.
Equally at ease on the Lieder platform, Markos has extensively performed all of Schubert’s Winterreise and has given numerous Lieder recitals throughout Europe.
His recital at The Shoe Factory, on Saturday 31 October, with Japanese pianist Yuri Tsunekawa, includes selected songs by Schubert, Liszt and Brahms all dealing with matters of life and love, death and redemption. From the frantically impassioned Schubert songs on Goethe’s settings through the transcendental sensuality of Liszt to Brahms’ Four Serious Songs, compiled from Martin Luther’s translation of passages from the Old Testament, and composed during the composer’s final year shortly after Clara Schumann’s death, the programme reveals the three composers in their rawest, most intimate and introspective form.
Please support this incredibly talented Cypriot musician by attending his first song recital in Cyprus, more details at the Pharos Arts Foundation website.
