Cyprus Condemns North Korea Satellite Launch, Nuclear Test

Cyprus has condemned a nuclear test and satellite launch via ballistic missile technology on February 7th by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The actions violate international obligations under UN Security Council resolutions and are a threat to international peace and security, said Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides.

The minister urged the DPRK to start talks with the international community with the aim of de-nuclearising the Korean Peninsula.

The Kwangmyongsong-4 satellite launch was condemned by the UN Security Council which plans to sanction the DPRK. It also appears to be in technical trouble after US officials reported that it was ‘tumbling’ in space.

With the incredible technology of the Internet, ordinary people can track the satellite’s location here. It is due to pass over Cyprus and the rest of the region today, February 9th.
