Jazz Singer Sarah Fenwick Performs in Limassol - Remembering Casablanca
The glamour of Old Hollywood couldn’t be better represented than with the movie Casablanca, which was set in World War II. Full of jazz tunes and atmosphere, the film starred Humphrey Bogart as nightclub owner Rick Blaine, and Ingrid Bergman as his old flame, Ilsa.
Married to the resistance fighter Victor Laszlow who’s on the run from Nazi forces, Ilsa is desperate to smuggle her heroic husband out of Casablanca, which was controlled by the French Vichy Nazi collaborators.
Several important jazz songs were immortalised in this film; As Time Goes By (Herman Hupfield); It Had To Be You (Isham Jones) and Love for Sale (Cole Porter). The songs were used to highlight key plot points and characters; It Had To Be You was played in the opening shot of Rick’s Cafe. Love For Sale was played when the sleazy character Renault appeared in the scene.
On Saturday March 19th, renowned jazz singer Sarah Fenwick and brilliant guitarist Marinos Neofytou perform a tribute to this great film with their show Remembering Casablanca.
They will play all the songs mentioned above plus many more from their own originals and jazz repertoire. The show starts at 9:30 at Mbouat bar in Limassol. Reservations on 99 652 205.
