The Foreign Ministry has announced an emergency number for Cypriots living near or in the areas affected by Hurricane Matthew. The number is for the Cyprus Embassy in the US: +1 202 681 1162.
The Cyprus Embassy in Washington is also cooperating with the Greek Consulate in Tampa, Florida.
So far there are no reports of Cypriots being affected by the massive storm, which caused record-breaking flooding in Carolina. Over 300 people were killed when the hurricane passed through the Caribbean.
The storm has been downgraded to a Hurricane 1 storm from Category four and is now moving out to sea, but the winds are still gusting at 100 miles per hour and flooding is a constant threat. Power is out across large areas of South Carolina, say US news reports.
The biggest dangers at this point are the powerful wave surges from the sea.
