14th Cyprus Film Days International Festival 2016

The 14th «Cyprus Film Days» International Festival, the largest international film event in Cyprus dedicated exclusively to contemporary world cinema and fiction feature films , invites the viewers to participate in an exquisite ten-day experience of dazzling images and narratives of cinematic excellence.

This year, the Festival will take place from the 15th to the 24th April, 2016 at Rialto Theatre, in Limassol and Zena Palace Cinema, in Nicosia. It is co-organised by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and Rialto Theatre.

Cyprus Film Days moves forward with a new, updated logotype inspired by the anthropomorphic idol from the settlement of Chirokoitia- a true copy of which is also handed out as the Festival Award to the winning films. The logotype design was undertaken by graphic designer Popi Pissouriou.

The selection of films and programming of screenings and parallel events, is undertaken by a three-member Artistic Committee, with Tonia Mishiali (director) and Dr Costas Constantinides (film scholar) continuing their task from last year, while director- producer Marios Stylianou is replacing director Stelana Kliris.

The 14th «Cyprus Film Days» International Festival will showcase two main programmes of screenings: Viewfinder – which includes awarded films that have been celebrated internationally and Glocal Images, which is the international competition section of the Festival. Like every year, the Festival will also feature parallel events, tributes, workshops and live music shows. Working towards supporting local filmmakers and furthering film education, the Festival proudly organises film workshops for professionals, led by international filmmakers and directors.

A five member International Jury will award the Glocal Images Best Film Award, accompanied by the amount of €6,000, the Glocal Images Special Jury Award, accompanied by the amount of €3,000 and Glocal Images Best Director Award, accompanied by the amount of €1,000.

For the second time round, Cyprus Film Days incorporates a special section with films for young audiences. The Cyprus Film Days for Children and Youth, which is co-organised in collaboration with the International Children’s Film Festival of Cyprus, includes screenings of international award-winning films for young audiences as well as short films produced by children in Cyprus and Greece. The artistic directors of this programme are David Hands (director) and Dr Christina Georgiou (composer - scriptwriter).
